It was a total lunar eclipse today, Feb 20th and they say there wont be another for next three years till Dec 2010. Fascinating. Perhaps that is why i took my roomie's daughter to this hill top and for quite a while we kept struggling to get a glimpse of the eclipse. I set my tripod up meanwhile answering Rubi's, this five year old, questions about the sun, the moon and the stars. Just like i would, as a kid. Astronomy was a huge passion. I even wanted to be an astronaut. (smiles) But then, havent most of us... at some point in our lives, wanted to be astronauts? Hehe!... I see some of you nodding! So anyway, chanda mama did finally show up, eclipsed... orange, looking as magnificent as ever, in all its glory while still overshadowed ...
And i couldnt help but marvel at thee :)
And then the thought .. how beautiful is everything around us! I'v always held moon very special. Have often found myself staring at it for hours and smiling, recalling how i so believed back in childhood, that there was indeed an old woman that lived on it, churning something. To my surprise, Rubi today also said "Assshimma, did you know that there is a man who lives out there" ... i stopped clicking pictures, looked at her, smiling, and said "yes darling, with his really old mother who keeps churning something".
How i wish i was a kid. Everything was so believable. So easy to trust... I wish ..! How i wish ..!!
Its 2am .. I'v not written much, grown nostalgic and still sleepless :) I guess i'll make a promise.. to write more often now!.. Inshallah!

WOW [nods] :-)
Assshimma, I don't wanna say.. "yeah, me too". But believe it or not,
most of my summer nights are spent watching the stars and Moon through
a powerful telescope. It is so much fun, esp after you are loaded with
couple of wines. IN fact, talking about childhood, after coming to US,
i wish Jupiter (Guru) was as clear and bright in india as it is here.
Jupiter is amazingly bright, guess its closer to the North Pole. may be
Again, no reply expected as you definitely are an interesting kid. (giggling)
